Pacific Battles Not in PC’s Future

3 February 2011 2 Comments Written By: Brian

Swedish developer Dice officially announced that the download only Battlefield 1943 would not be making a trip to PC.  Today on the Battlefield Blog Dice reveled that they would not continue to work on the PC port of Battlefield 1943 or Onslaught mode, a 4 player co-op mode for Battlefield Bad Company 2.  Both 1943 and Onslaught mode were made available console users, with Battlefield 1943 releasing July of 2009 and onslaught mode coming out just after Bad Company 2 did on consoles.  While this is a bit of a disappointment Dice continues with their post stating that they are looking ahead by moving onward with Battlefield 3 which apparently now using the Frostbite 2 engine.  This is exciting news.  So while we are having an awesome multi-player DICE shooter canceled we are also going to be getting a much better Battlefield experience on the PC.  When first reading this story I was not upset by the wheels in my head began to turn.  Why cancel an easy port of an WWII shooter?  It should have taken DICE a few months to move 1943 over to PC.  I know that now its only speculation but Battlefield 3, modern? or WWII? Comments welcome.

I always thought if anything the PC would have been the first to get BF 1943. I hope this doesn’t mean DICE is pushing PC gamers to the backseat when it comes to their games. They’re the ones who made the Battlefield series popular in the first place.

Oh well. Still looking forward to BF3.

I don’t understand how BC2 and BC2 Vietnam were so successful and they still don’t think that the PC is worth releasing on. It feels like EA has completely bought into the whole “pc gaming is dead” bullshit.
